Short Q&A with the Autonomic Boys
Q. The podcasts have quickly gained a cult following since you launched them in January and have been popular with fans of drum & bass and dubstep alike. Was it your intention to appeal to a wider fanbase or have you been suprised by the result?
A. It wasn't a surprise that people outside of the dnb scene would pick up on them as there is a range of electronic music on each one. What was a surprise was the amount of downloads we got, the 1st one had 12,000 downloads in 3 weeks.
Q. It's pretty clear that a lot of work has gone into each of the podcasts, with every individual Layer having it's own flavour. How long has it taken on average to put them together and have you planned them in advance?
A. We all sit down and work out what goes into them and how the tracks should flow and we also try to keep them in key. Most of the time it depends on what material we have at the time. The podcasts take about 3 days to put together, a couple hours here and there each day.
Q. There's been a noticeable lack of drum & bass in the Influences sections to date - is this by design?
A. There are so many tracks that could go into the Influences, I think what we put in is relevant to what is influencing the tracks we are writing now, but we are only half way through the podcasts, so who knows?
Q. Are there any plans for Club Autonomic beyond the Fabric residency and regular podcasts?
A. There are lots of ideas being chucked around the camp at the moment, first off there will be an Autonomic C.D that will feature some tracks from the podcasts and some exclusives, also we will be taking Autonomic on the road.
Q. What's next in the schedules for Exit and NonPlus+?
A. On Nonplus+ , we have 002 which is Instra:mental - Watching you/Tramma in September, also up and coming releases include a Skream and ASC, Instra:mental L.P in Feb 2010 and after that the ASC L.P.
on Exit we have Spectra:soul 12" (Melodies/Insignia), Consequence album, "Live For Never", and my second album.
